Flinders Ranges and South Australia

There are a few ferries/punts across the Murray river in South Australia. Similar to those across the Murray in NE Victoria and in the Hawkesbury region of NSW. They are free, paid for by the government, and most operate 24hrs, you have to ring a bell or toot your horn at night to get the attention of the punt operator. I seem to recall on the Eskdale weekend we had to wake up the Wymah Ferry man in the middle of the day. There are 14 or 15 in total along the Murray River (didn't two wheeler do a ride report along those lines a few years ago?). A few weeks ago when Jo and I were heading over to SA, we queued up for the Wellington Ferry near Tailem Bend but the queue was quite long and after waiting about 15 minutes and judging it would probalby be a good 45 more mins before we got our turn we turned round and went the long way around via the #1 Hwy.

The excitement of seeing the big crayfish was too much. After a feed of fish and chips, washed down with some Diet Cider... It was soon time for zzzzz

The next morning was here.... 4 hrs before time IMHO.... so we slowly packed up and set off for Beachport.

Breakfast by the Bay. I was starving... We'd hardly eaten on this trip. :bt
I can't show you the food we had. But you can dine on the view.

The trip home was beckoning and we set off only stopping at Mt Gambier for a look at the Blue Lake.

Through Hamilton and on to Ballarat, then down the Calder to rush hour in Melbourne.

After 3100 km and some great memories, it was time to unpack.

Flinders Rangers you were great. Thoroughly recommend a visit there.

Big thanks to ozav8r for the invite and the ADV crew for hosting a well organised "do".

I had a blast... :lao
