what a top read and a top trip Glitch and Mock. you should work out how much its cost ya, those posti bikes dont cost much to buy and run after all.
Mate....to be honest, I don't really wanna know how much that fortnight came to.:wow::wow:
For the start, it was
too much FUN...
The actual cost of running a postie is fairly minimal, once you've got the bike (~1000-1200 plus ~300 for parts and bits to get it onto the road), there's 300 bux Vic rego, $30-50 tyres, 3l of juice/ 100km road-riding, you get the idea.
Looking at the overall cost of this trip though...things blew out.
Bike-shipping, flights back and forth, a $1000 replacement engine, 90 bux for 8 oil-changes in Hervey Bay, 40bux ech for vehicle permit and camping permit on Fraser Island, another 40 bux/ bike for the barges to and from Fraser (and those were "postie"-grin-your-head-off-rates).
In the end...either you do it...or you don't!
For the next stint there'll be no shipping charges as the bikes are already up there...but the flights, permits for certain areas of the Cape, the barge across the Jardine River....and lots more, I'm sure.
Then add the more-than-real-possibility of breakdowns/ recovery-costs/personal expenses due to breakdowns like extra flights opr transport of bike from Bamaga via ship back to Cairns and, and...and!
All that before any possible costs related to prangs and injuries...
In the end...either you do it...or you don't!
and i do agree, slow speeds, you see a lot more and go a lot of places most people wouldnt consider taking them on, after all they are kinda expendable. i seriously doubt you would see anybody take their 15 grand strom through frazer.
so what was your most rememberal moment Glitch and yours too Mock?
Damn right...after what we've seen, I wouldn't take the Strom to Fraser, NO WAY!!
Cooloola ? maybe....(with a few mates to help eachother onto and off the beach, the 15k's of Freshwater Rd. could well turn out a real bitch though...maybe half a day's worth of blood, sweat and curses).
The most memorable moments?
I'm in tune with Goodie here....FRASER!!
The emotional highs-and-lows were just EXTREME, jubilation and deep awe skyhigh.... followed by deepest frustration and despair only 30mins later....and the last hour in the mudflats with the rising tide and half-dead engine grew from concern to outright fear, then towards panic...while the sunset on the barge across to Hervey Bay an hour later was a real highlight again....things were just extreme.
ALL DAY LONG!!....one of the most intense days in my 50odd years
But even without Fraser and Cooloola, there were so many highlights....and quite a few of them involved the contact with other people...it's hard to sort it all out.
