We are for some days in Switzerland in Basel to be exact. Today I found this rare good looking MG Coupe from 1954. The chassis is MG, the bodywork is from Bertone and the one who had the idea was an American called Arnolt. Officially it is a MG Arnolt Coupe. I love it but it is above the budget limit.
This is my pic of the day.
The subject of the photo is a 2007 Kawasaki GTR1400 which was bought new by a bloke I knew from FarRiders. He was a very keen motorcyclist and owning this bike only increased his appetite for riding.
Malcolm was 69 years old when he bought it new and was still riding it huge distances well into his late 80s. I first met him around 2010 and we both attended FarRider events all over the SA/Vic/NSW/QLD corner of the country. The last long ride he did was a 1000km day back in Feb 2025 with the Southern Cross Distance Riders (a bit of an offshoot of the remains of FarRiders after that forum imploded). Malcolm passed in late 2025 at the age of 87. The bike, as it sits now, in perfect mechanical order, has 437,760km on the clock. The bike has had regular dealer servicing and almost no mechanical repairs during it's lifetime.
Following his death, Malcolm's family have donated or loaned (i'm not sure which) the bike to Gilbert's Motor Museum in Strathalbyn SA. Malcolm was local to the area, living in Goolwa.
I spent an hour in the museum on a stinking hot day last week, but could easily have spent many hours there looking at the vehicles on display and their extensive library.
Then home via Yarra Glen. Saw a few police out and about. Traffic stop just outside Yarra Glen. Car in Whittlesea doing a breath test. 2 on bikes stopped near Healesville, gave them a wave, and they waved back I expect a bit busier today.
