Marty had belly-slammed the Strom onto a rock on the Jamieson-Licola Rd....cracked the engine case near the oil-drain bolt.
Taking stock of the damage at the Merrijig Lodge that night....eventually managed to get the crack welded a couple of weeks later in Melbourne.
KiWi looking skeptical there...

Bought a second hand screen with the intention of cutting it down for the warmer times. Tall, but in good nick. Maybe just go for a ride and see what it is like.

Going past Lilydale Airport, I can smell petrol, must be coming from the planes taking off methinks. Get into Yarra Glen and there is fuel all over the LHS of the tank. Dripping onto the exhaust and making a hissing sound. Squirting out from the top of the fuel pump area, no tools at all with me as just going on a little ride :icon-shithappens-: Let us leave it alone and call RACV.

45 mins later a nice guy rolls up and proceeds to strap the bike on to his truck :)

All done. It was going in for a service and TPMS sensors changed next week to BM motorcycles, I rang Chris and he said to bring it down today and leave it there. I would have had to get another tow anyway to get it there, so that was good :)

As far as the screen goes, I might keep it like it is for the cooler months, it was very quiet as it is about 150 mm higher. Back to the original scheme of a lower screen. Only has to be about 200 mm high, maybe alum checkerplate painted black, I have a while to think about it.

Cheers Ian

Not short on drama there!

Maybe the added wind resistance of that tall screen make the fuel pump work so hard to "blow a seal"?
;)

Next time gimme a hoy, happy to tow/ pickup/whatever

Thanks for the offer Pete. At least I am getting something back for my RACV Total Care membership, he reckons around $400 for the trip to Ringwood, ouch

Towing fee for the ST1300 & trailer from Cobrungra to Bairnsdale was in the order of $2500. Probably charged out as supply of plant & labour at around $500 per hour. Nice little earner for around a five hour job and 300km round trip, aye?

Perhaps the following should be in an insurance or crash thread, but here goes ....

I remember discussing withdrawing the insurance claim with Swann, the claims advisor explained that I would then need to pay the tow fee - sounds plausible.

When @Dougman & I went to Bairnsdale to pick-up my personal effects and trailer from Bairnsdale I checked with the towing people, they said the bike wouldn't be released until the fee was paid, Swann or me, they didn't care - sounds plausible.

Mmmm .... who authorised the towing? Not me, I wasn't there when the bike & trailer were picked-up! Perhaps I did before, they put me in the back of the ambulance. WTF did I do when I was doped up following a couple of green whistles and a jab of morphine? Could I be responsible for my actions under those circumstances? It was a very stressful time. In the end, the $2500 hanging in limbo, led to the claim proceeding.
