Just some random shots along the way.

Another hour north on the Autobahn got us to the Lueneburg Heathlands, a well known tourist area south of Hamburg famous for its 4-weeks-a-year "purple dress" when the low heath shrubs bloom and turn the whole landscape purple.
Poor sandy soil, resulting from deforestation for firewood to boil-out the "White Gold" (salt) found under the town of Lueneburg, it's turned nature upside down to fill the pockets of the salt-barons (and church) 800 years ago. The heath-spectacle now drives the tourist industry and all the hangers-on. Spud farming is big, so is corn, some small herds of brumbys and a special breed of sheep , the Heidschnucke, essential in keeping the heathlands going https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidschnucke
as well as the beekeeping and honey industry creating some incredible product as a result of that 4week bloom.
On the walking/ cycling tracks by 7am, dodging the masses.
Traditional sheep pen
Thirsty work...but jeez, looking at the glass in front of me.... buuurp
