Hima wanderings...

I'm interested in those crash bars a couple of the bikes have mounted in front of the speedo and behind the screen. I assume that they are for mounting GPS. etc but are they as solid as they look?
I would be a little worried about riding with something really solid that high in front of my chest.

I reckon the height is good.... just not wide enough as monkey bars for that stylish triple pike dismount.

A couple more at Acheron Gap....

....splitting off up to Strickland Spur, a lucky choice as the road was in superb nick. Pick your line and squirt.
Not a patch of snow though....and sadly the fabulous 180 views of years past have greened over, the new growth gums an easy 8-10m tall already.

Into the top end of Marysville and out towards Narbethong, looking for a tucked away picnic area for lunch.
A few minutes later and there's our Hima-group again at the side of the road.
Recognized you guys too late, sorry....but how did you get there with that accident and road closure just ahead?

Quick mental reboot for the available options for the afternoon return route then....Squiz quickly found another lunch spot, not just offering tables and benches, but also some
warming sunshine together with a concert by bellbirds.

Where from here?
Was I glad that I'd found the time to spoon on that new Mitas rear just before the weekend!!
Following the slip-sliding Drizzer down that red, slimy chute towards Grantons Rd.

...before a dogleg across the Acheron and and a few more puddles up to DomDom Saddle for a crawl into Healesville.

Big thanks to all!!....I certainly enjoyed the day. :)

As one who has boken a knee and a wrist going forward over the bars that metalwork does not give my lower stomach and nether regions any degree of comfort. :)

We were lucky, there was a road right just behind us when we were stopped and that took us around the accident and joined the road into Marysville near the town.
Was a pretty fun dry track we all enjoyed.
Anderson Mill Road.

Rally bike riders have been mounting all sorts of road books, timing devices, cameras and GPSs in that position for a long time and never have a problem. I think you're underestimating your ability to fly when you hit a bump.

Spy photos of the new 450cc watercooled Himalayan. Supposedly around the 40hp mark so a significant increase over the current model.

First I had similar thoughts....but those guys pretty much stand on the pegs all the time, giving the family jewels and upper body a rather clear trajectory over the top when they pretzel it.
Where it takes most of the impact energy to get the average fat arsed Urban Cowboy out of the seat.... before top/ forward motion sets in (if there's any energy left for that).

I trust myself to wreck some flimsy screen or nose-cone plastics of a Pegaso/ Strom/KLR or such in mid-flight.... but that navi-bracket is a bit on the beefy side.

Nice move, RE!

But sad to see the old air-cooled banger go.
Longstroke, lazy thumper, EFI and ABS and just enough leccy junk to tie it all together, decent ergos and cheap + easy bits that can be fixed in the bush over and over with only rudimentary means/ tools.

They could've tickled at least 10 more hp out of the 411 quite easily, dump a ton of weight all around and up-spec the boingers and anchors....and that thing would piss all over the BMW Baby-GS while being more reliable and way tougher than the 390Katoom just built down the road.
