Still drifting up the St. Lawrence towards Quebec City...

Beaupre is a sort of outer-satellite to Quebec City...

Only 10 mins. down the road and smack-bang in the eastern suburbs of Quebec City is the next "GAWK-AT-THAT!!" affair: :slobb

At over 80m free fall, this thing makes a hell of a racket, regularly sprays over the nearby railway tracks and 6 lane freeway, can be seen from the other side of the St. Lawrence, can freeze to a MASSIVE wall-of-ice during winters, is a major tourist attraction and acts as a key summer-fun-hub for locals and visitors alike.
The massive volumes of water run a short 150m into the St. Lawrence.
The Montmorency Falls are quite something! :glu:glu

Poor bugger got stuck and had the worst 5 minutes of his life (watched by hundreds!!) ...until some 20-something Rescue-Mr.Universe hauled him in.

Without any more farting around...Quebec and the northern
St. Lawrence are simply one hell of a place and without a question, a MUST-SEE!!

Hi Hans..thanks for looking in.
Plenty more to come.... when I find the time.

Could've tried the quick release and took his chances in the washing machine.

Maybe the poor sod was thinking about just that...not the most comfortable spot to get stuck.

Here's a quick Google-wrap re: Quebec City:

Québec City sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada's mostly French-speaking Québec province. Dating to 1608, it has a fortified colonial core, Vieux-Québec and Place Royale, with stone buildings and narrow streets. This area is the site of the towering Château Frontenac Hotel and imposing Citadelle of Québec. The Petit Champlain district’s cobblestone streets are lined with bistros and boutiques.

Stunning: the amount of BIG, old building getting re-roofed in copper sheeting and trims. It costs an absolute BOMB!

US2016_0254.JPG

And the work is exquisite!! :glu

The maps make it easy...pick the narrowest part of the river and.... control it.
Build the place, build the fortifications...

map_2.jpg

The Old City is inside the marked area...the old harbour to the north, city and the Chateau Frontenac along the river to the east, La Citadelle and Fortifications at the southern end, effectively throttling the river.

And for a look at the real thing, despite the grey skies and occasional gusty showers, let's hike.

Parliament House

Parliament is doing something right here...

Rue Saint Louis city gate...only one of a few in the well-restored city walls which circle Old Quebec.

US2016_0261.JPG

Help...she shrunk in the wash!

US2016_0263.JPG

Restoration works at La Citadelle before the winter-snows stop it all...400 years and 3 generations of stone-work.

US2016_0264.JPG

Acres and acres of....boardwalks!! The amount of timber on the ground is just unbelievable!:eek:

US2016_0265.JPG

US2016_0267.JPG

Hell yeah!! :glu:glu:clap:
Those "Maple-Leafers" got it stitched!
