I'm having fun at the BricktownE ...... hic!

Have a Whiskey Canyon Porter for me then :chug:
Great place, Medford.
Know you're busy....but a couple of local trips from Medford shouldn't be missed!
Just to the east (few k's) is Jacksonville, a cute, little historic joint.
A few more k's to the east from there is Applegate, where the road tacks further east to the scenic Applegate Dam/ Reservoir with the covered McKee bridge along the way..

Another short visit with unbelievable views is Mt. Ashland.
South on the I-5 for about 20mins towards the Cali border, exit6 = Mt. Ashland, follow signs from there for about 15 mins to the Mt. Ashland ski-area.

Panoramic views galore right along the road into the NorCal coastal ranges, the Siskiyou Valley and the 14.000ft volcanic cone of Mt. Shasta which should still carry plenty of snow.

Not to forget riding the mega-whoopsies (with superb views, too!!) east from Ashland on the "Dead Indian".
Fantastic way to hit rt. 62 to/ from Crater Lake

23F...you got chains as part of the hire for that 'lil Suzuki?

:wot:

Got to Crater Lake, 0C, plenty of snow, road open to the lake, the Hyundai Sonata handled it well. Very nice little car, smooth, quiet, on-board computer tells me we averaged 50 MPG today (imperial gallons).

Helen currently behind the wheel, cruise set on 65 MPH, locals passing us if we are standing still - 75 to 80 seems to be their zone, occasionally we see a Highway Patrol office having a word to a driver. Methinks they must been flying too low.

The Suzuki reference was to your old shopping trolley.

Mmmmm ........ plenty of pics on the Canon, will need to down some to the iPhone via WiFi connection, then upload to Photobucket- very tedious and sloooow. I did take a few with the iPhone, this will have to do for now.

If you zoom in on this one, you will see how high the snow has piled-up:

Might be time for someone to cut 'n' paste trip posts into this thread:

Might be better to actually start a new thread in the RR section?
Just start a thread and I'll shove those posts + pics across.

Thursday 23 March

Helen & I fly Air NZ from Melb to LA via Auckland. Took advantage of a $300 Air NZ offer of an upgrade to Sky Lounge. This is where we get three seats, they lift up the foot rests to form a "bed". Despite the extra comfort and the dizzy elevation reached b/t Auckland and LA, I'm sad to report that I've yet to join the mile high club.

Arrived LA around 11:15am Thursday 23 (LA time), join the two hour queue at US Customs, do a few stretches to relieve the sore back to then escorted to the express queue and are ushered through in 15 minutes.
