6 too many wheels, not enough vino and a rendezvous.

7 years ago, almost to the day Tim from the T2 crew took this photo of me, totally by accident I ended up at the same place and took the same photo on the Passo del Gavia

Glurns (Glorenza) was the stay for the night

Glorenza, the smallest town in South Tyrol, works its magic on every visitor with its charming medieval atmosphere, perfectly preserved town walls and its three picturesque gate towers. Virtually unchanged since the 16th century, there are echoes of the eventful history of this former trading town around every corner. With its romantic character, rich culture and idyllic surroundings, Glorenza is a real alpine jewel. It is our pleasure to invite you to our beautiful town to share with you magical moments, historic festivals and spectacular cultural events.

it was a big day, from the canals of Venice via ferry in the morning to the Pass Roads into Switzerland in the early evening, the local cuisine and wine went down very easy that night

.... and down the Umbrail Pass into Glurns

Heard that the last 4 or 5 k's of dirt near the bottom of the Umbrail are now sealed.

The Umbrail....brings back some fond memories of T1-2007.
Arrived in the area just as one of those freak weatherfronts had brought a snow-dump to all the high passes in the area and the eastern ramp of the Stelvio was closed.

Went for a peek up the Umbrail instead.

there was so much more to explore in the area but we have things to do and places to see.....

off to the Stelvio Pass which Top Gear once said it was "The Greatest Road in the World" .... not quite, but is is one of the most scenic and it you are only going to see one Pass road in the Alps, this is one of the most visual stimulating

I almost offered him $20,000 there and then...... ride away never seen again

the west side of the Stelvio which is not as pretty as the East side, it is a better riding road

next stop off was Livigno, a small town/ski area which is a duty free area in Northern Italy and I used the 'Duty Free' tag to entice the lovely wife into heading through the Alps, unbeknown to me, the shops shut for 2 hours around midday and we just missed them, credit card saved, my hide.... no so much so

Off to St Moritz for lunch, I love Switzerland, the place just jells with me..

one of the glaciers on the way, the name escapes me, but I was here in '09 on T2 and got the 800GS totally airborne over the railway crossing, I think I had to do a uturn 3 times to just make sure I was getting enough air

pick a place for lunch and pay $30 for a sandwich, you kind of get use to that in 'touristy' Europe

The St Moritz Olympic Bobsled track, the only natural handmade bobsled track still left on the World Cup circuit

then to a real little Gem of the Alps, Soglio, I little town high hill where people have been yodelling and cow bells ringing for centuries and with little change, we arrived around magic hour and the light was magnificent.

back into Italy for the night, Chiavenna was the place, typical Italian country hospitality and we found a small family run restarunt to fill our stomachs full of local food and vino, life is good
