A little bit of NZ

We'd planned a dirt excursion for later in the morning. We were up high at this point. It got cold really quick, and the rain had an icy feel to it.
We aborted and headed for Taihape.

Just a normal occurrence in these parts.

Arriving back in Taihape, just before 1 pm. I decided to head to New Plymouth.
I'd fuelled the DR in Whanganui on the way through and 130k later I was refuelling in Opunake.
5 l for 130km seemed quite economical to me.
Arriving at Rahotu.

And the sun goes down on another excellent adventure.

Next morning, buckets of A2 milk. Doesn't fix hair loss I tell ya!

Sure beats my view of roofs in suburban Melbourne.

A quick stop a New Plymouth Triumph for a laugh. $$$
Then it was off to join the crew at Whangamomona! (The republic)

We were staying in Pohukura, an excellent Air bnb just south of Whangamomona.
As far as renovated farm cottages go, you cannot go past this one!

Extremely tranquil, and a lovely host that later bought us a feed fit for a King.

It wasn't really that cold, but the fire was welcoming and super nice. Chowing down on a home cooked meal.

And if looks could kill. Moggy was miffed that we kicked it out. Fekken thing!

So next morning, we set off for Raglan.
A lovely misty morning.

It's really stunning country.

Low cloud and mist make for a stunning vista.

A real tunnel, narrow with timber roof linings. Clay floor. Slippery when wet.

Ant doing his thing on the fresh deep gravel!

Sometimes you wonder about townships, Like Ohura. Everything was shut and up for sale. Eerily weird!

The little DR was chuffing away nicely! It used 1 ltr of oil on the trip

A quick stop at Kawhia before heading on to Raglan.

The sun going down on our last night on the road.

We gave La La land a miss.

But headed for some ice cream delights instead.

We had plans for some gravel on the last morning, however the weather had changed and it was a wet road run back into Auckland.
Morning tea at Tuakau before the Southern Motorway dash!

Having dodged the Auckland traffic, bikes washed, and safely returned to the depot.

We soon found ourselves enjoying our last meal of the trip. Mangere, South Auckland.
