To the goldfields. We went for a ride. About 275km Saturday and the same on Sunday (because I just followed the reverse GPS track to get home again). A lot of new roads on Saturday, so saw them all from the other direction on Sunday.
Here are some pics.
The claim to fame of "Tatura, Victoria" seems to be embodied in this cairn with a plaque that reads "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh passed here on Friday, 5th March 1954". It seems she didn't even stop. We did. Stayed the night. Drank a beer in each of the 3 pubs in town.
The original ovens in the Tatura Bakery.
All of the historic buildings in the main street of Rushworth are very well kept.
We took some tracks through the Heathcote-Graytown National Park
Saw signs warning of live firing, live bombs and laser hazards.
Stopped for lunch in Broadford, twice.
and started a collection of photos of Mechanics Institutes.
Stats for the weekend. 550 kilometers. fewer than 550 drops of rain on the visor for the weekend. (cut Mt Disappointment out of the return trip because the weather radar was showing significantly more precipitiation in the hills, so took the flats to Whittlesea.
