Sleep came like a whack with a hammer after the good asnd plentiful dinner, a bottle of Pizzini's best and the cozy snuggle into the sleeping bag.

The next morning started with a nippy 4degree, a monumental cooked + continental + cereals ++ breakfast and a meetup with Teflon-Rog and his mate from Bright at the Cheshunt store, coming along for the ride to Lake Cobbler and Goldie Spur.

Goodie nipped off to Lake William Hovell a bit further up the valley and the Farmers Markets in Moyhu, before the planned meetup at Heiner's Bakery in Myrtleford for a late lunch.

Andrew, this time on the WR250....with the sounds and noise of a gyrocopter.

Wet and greasy after yesterday's downpour.

Easter14_037.JPG

Time to turnaround and head back down the valley again...there's another gem waiting.
Crusty, who came up with this whole thing in the first place, had mentioned another road that supposedly ties into the Goldie Spur Track, which in return would get us into the Buckland Valley and the roundabout at Porepunkah, near Bright.

Right!

The most welcome surprise of the whole weekend waited at the Dandongadale end of the Rose River Road, just at the start of the asphalt of the Lake Buffalo Rd. (officially: Buffalo River Rd.)
Straight across the main road a set of bare-earth wheel tracks run across a bare paddock towards a small, new, concrete bridge across the Buffalo River.
On the Hema 4WD map the next 5k's look like a straight-ish track across some river-flats or valley floor, heading for the very foot of Mt. Buffalo.

SURPRISE!! :wot::wot:

The track turns into a powerline service track and traverses a ~3-400m high ridge. It's fairly steep up and down with hardly a gentler/ flatter stretch in between...and it's in superb nick at the moment!

Spectacular 360deg views, too :glu:glu

Easter14_041.JPG

Mt. Buffalo on the left....the track up the slopes of the opposite side of the valley is the Goldie Spur.

Easter14_042.JPG

First there's a crossing of the Yarrarabula Creek, another contributary flowing into Lake Buffalo. There's another "feeder-road" from the Lake Buffalo Boat Club area joining here, gotta do this one next time to "complete-the-set".

Easter14_044.JPG

Easter14_045.JPG

Gaining height...FAST.

Easter14_046.JPG

The look back...half an hour ago we stood on the ridge over there, then followed those tracks.

Easter14_047.JPG

The Mt. BUffalo "glitters" don't really come out in this shot. The previous days' rain made those huge granite slabs glisten in the sun...like dozens of monster-sized mirrors stuck to the flank of the mountain...:drool::lao

Easter14_049.JPG

Climb, baby, climb!!

Easter14_050.JPG

Easter14_051.JPG

Eventually the track levels out for a short stretch, providing some safer areas for parking the bike and getting on/off without the worry of the whole schamozzle going south on the loose rubble while trying to capture the breathtaking views across the Victorian Alps.

Feast time again at the King River Camp. The stir-fry was just as good, tasty and plentiful as the roasts and vegies the night before.
No question, we'll be back there!!

Easter14_058.JPG

Maintongoon Rd., the "northern extension" of the Skyline Rd. above Lake Eildon looks suspiciously ready for a tar seal from the end of Skyline to the top of Sonnberg Drv.
The hard, compacted gravel, some widening, loads of new white posts along the sides and flattening of the surface, in some corners up to nearly 1/2 meter thick are way too extensive and elaborate for the usual, little "paint-over job".

A great weekend with lots of laughs, many faces old and new, some fantastic digs and tucker in one of the best riding areas of Oz, wineries and the Upper King River at the back fence, some sweet Victorian High Country tracks and gobsmacking views. Throw in some new stretches and roads, grinning faces and a bagful of tar-twisties and I can see a repeat happening fairly soon.
Thanks everyone....AGAIN....for the good times!!:clap:
