You know how smoke detectors with a flattening battery emit that 'peep' every 40 seconds or so ? My neighbouring unit had one ; the proprietor's phone went unanswered  ; my eyes were like piss-holes in the snow the next morning.
You guys crack me up.
I read somewhere that smoke detectors go chirp when the battery voltage falls below a preset level. Apparently low temperatures cause the voltage to drop, hence the low voltage alarm invariably happens at the coldest time, usually 2am.
Piss-holes in the snow. I'm going to store that one.
