Looks like this place is one for me to stay away from.

3 times more likely to be killed there if your name is Robert. Peter made the list too...

What got me, was the age-bracket...all pretty young folks.
And while it was a quiet, calm place on the day... I can see the danger of those swirls and troughs and big boulders turning into one huge washing machine when the water levels are up.
Only found the place by chance...

A morning around Stowe, Vermont

There are rumours about they're working on a bike-version.
That'll make the ADV-crowd reach for the bib to catch the dribble, aye?!

A memorial to the Alpine Troopers in a private front yard...certainly made us stop!

Another covered bridge....along the way to Cabot, near the New Hampshire border.

Cabot....touted as a "locals-insider" tip by one of the local M'cycle Touring sites.
Well and truly off the beaten path and oh man, they were right! The town's a little gem...and the cheese sensational!

US2016_0094.JPG

US2016_0096.JPG

No covered bridges here...but a covered flight-of-steps!

US2016_0097.JPG

US2016_0098.JPG

Picturebook 1960's rural-US... "gas-pumps" right on the roadway, haybales on the porch, flags and signs out....and some locals leaning on the counter just inside, yabbering local politics.
SWEET!!

Harry's Hardware...the place to buy a knife in town (to cut that cheese!!)

US2016_M_0041.JPG

And Harry's not short on variety either....ANY tray you want!

US2016_0100.JPG

Nope, NOT Milano or Rome!!!
But maybe there's an Italian sparky in town... :bs

US2016_0101.JPG

A flowerpot next to the rollerdoor....a flag on that power pole....and that really should be a 57" Chev rolling off that tray.

US2016_0099.JPG

Leaving Cabot...love the place!

US2016_0102.JPG

A quick hop across the New Hampshire border at Woodsville for the run up the fabled Rt.112 and the Kanc....the Kancamagus Hwy., heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains.

Thrown in a return trip across the Bear Notch Rd. to Bartlett, veer off the Kanc at the Passaconaway Covered Bridge for the backroad around Conway and the steep climb up the breathtaking Cathedral Ledge and you've got yourself one hell of a day!!
On a bike...this is heaven!!

Let's get crackin'...and into New Hampshire.

Lost River Gorge + Boulders

Just up the road we nearly zipped past this one....and would've kicked ourselves from here to Kingdom Come
knowing what we do now! Maaaan, what a place!!:drool:

Just west of Lincoln on the rt.112 (local: Lost River Rd.)

Fantastic Nature...trees growing from the tiniest crack in a rock....then surface-root for food.

Perfect spot to pop a beer at the end of the day...right next to the box of "motorcycle rags".

Dead-right there...2 half-days of overcast/ gloomy stuff, 30mins total rain over 3 weeks...the weather was exceptional!
Then again...the high temps for that time of year had made the famous autumn-colours come late this year, so it was gain on one hand, loss on the other.
Mornings were between 10-18C, should've been around light frost-to-single figures instead.
No complains though...copped a major rush-of-yellow in the Rockies.

Yo...looks like NZ-Luigi had a working holiday in New England there.:killingme

Lincoln, Woodstock, Warren...a morning fling along the western White Mountains, New Hampshire

Rather than just rushing "up the Kanc" to the east, here's an early morning loop on the historic Warren-Woodstock Rd.

Straight out of the '50s....Aluminum! (yeah, they REALLY say that over here!):so exterior, trims and dark-red vinyl galore.
Plain Jane it ain't!

US2016_M_0057.JPG

US2016_M_0059.JPG

Enough of this...there's the "Kanc" and the White Mountains waiting for us....right over there!

US2016_0129.JPG

Having read so much about it, the Kancamagus is a bit of a let-down.

This isn't a bike road at all... but a slightly curvy express-road for 1960's Cadillacs with wet-sponge suspension and Firestone whitewalls, hmmm...
No doubt though, the scenery makes up for it!

US2016_0131.JPG

The narrower, steeper and twistier Bear Notch Pass across to Bartlett on the other hand....now we're talking!
Still far too wide + smooth for proper "thumper-scratching", this one's perfect GS/Strom/Tiger etc hunting ground. Leave that monstrous Toyota battery pack at the side of the road.... and we'd have ourselves some fun.

Bartlett

US2016_0144.JPG

And a tack north to the "we'll maybe have at look at this if there's time" Cathedral Ledge State Park .....for an absolute stumper!
THIS road is STEEEEP!! and TIGHT!! There's even a sign at the bottom to leave anything past 20' length at home!
And it all ends right on top of "The Ledge", with fabulous views across those granite-slabs and into the core of the White-Mountains ring-of-peaks.:glu

...regardless of which famous father-of-the-nation once parked his arse on the chintz-lounge in the hunting-room in the 1800s.
At USD550/ night, screw the bugger and get back to Maccas.
Sorta

No "Big Apple" for us...but the Golden Apple (Inn) comes to the party with a "can't say-no" rate
for a couple of nights.:chug:

Tomorrow's breakfast...it still comes in paper-bags here!!
With a smile!
