missed by that much...

was going to head up that road heading from Saint Tropez to Cuneo, instead went further east into Italy then up (we were in a cage after all...never again!)

found this little gem of a town though

Just north from there you would have gone through the long Tende Tunnel into Italy then.
While in the tunnel you cross the border... and right above is the Col de Tende,
one of the key spots along the famous Ligurian Border Ridge Road.

No idea if the Col de Tende (southern ramp/ France) is passable again after a major earth slip a few years back...but is was a humdinger of a ride on the R1100 RT's in 2007.
Have a look at the map....top 2/3 are gravel. https://goo.gl/H4Qafb

Sweaty business... :)

Fort Central at the top.

The road-zigzag on the distant hillside is the continuation of the Ligurian Border Ridge Road to the east.

The whole area of Stura + Maira Valleys and their neighbouring ridges and valleys are just mindblowing, awesome single-laners and lots of gravel around together with the old Ligurian Military Defense Lines.

here is the photo sitting on it looking back up we had to wait 30 mins for the traffic light to change waiting for the tunnel, the road from there to the tunnel was in total repair
