What a sight!! That big lump of Ruapehu is just magnificent.
That whole Tongariro area is like a central magnet of the North Island.
I'll always remember coming from Pipiriki and cresting that righthand hairpin with the little carpark on the outside....and the farmland crowned by the white Giant in the distance.
Awesome sight.

Unfortunately it wasn't that good a day for photos - I was really after some better shots. Perhaps i should have cut a lap of the mountain to see if the weather was better on the other side.

A heap of snow for this time of the season...
