Maaate...that road to the Shannon dams looks GREAT on Gmaps....and the North Range Rd. doesn't seem to have a single straight bit in it!
Is that along a hillside or following a ridge?

Takapari is a dead-end? Seems to finish on a ridge...

The Shannon dams are great - I want to go back when it's not wet and foggy...

North Range Road is kind of a mix of following a ridge and running alongside the side of the hill. Plenty of puddles 99% of the time. The road has been improved at the Northern end (for access to the windmills) but still tight and windy - just less of the bog holes...

Takapari Road is definitely a dead end but on a good day you can see for miles either side of the ranges. Reports from the guys say that it was in good nick too although apparently there was one wee incident.

I've been snowed on riding both North Range and Takapari Road and it definitely blows up there...

Thanks for the info....Would North Range be less "boggy" through summer? Or is it one of those places in the "first line of hills catching all the crap" that also cops the the rain through summer....some places just never dry out. Know a few of those over here, the southern slopes of the Grand Ridge in Gippsland come to mind....and the CREB Track up in North Qld.

One of those days I'll get off my bum and put together a southern NI ride for a week/ 10 days or so...and knock on your door for a bucketload of tips and hints. You'd know every square-inch of that place by now...
